I was hoping i could get some info so i can plan a windsurfing holiday in cairns or palm cove. i got a few questions. was looking towards june/july holidays next year.

which one would be a better base. cairns or palm cove?
are there any windsurfing shops in the area?
is there any gear hire in the area?
how shallow is the water. can i sail a formula?
are there any houses available for rent?
does anyone do windsurfing holidays to cairns?
what are the best places to windsurf?
does it normally blow 20-25 knots every day at this time of year?
what are the conditions like (speed, slalom, waves, bumps)?

i long list i know. I unfortunately have no clue with anything above Elliot heads.
oh yeah, and one question on elliot heads. can i wave sail there when the feb/march Sou-esters are cranking?

cheers
gestalt.

Cairns is cheaper, Palm Cove is touristy depends what your up for. technically palm cove is in Cairns just on the northern beaches. only 30 min from city centre. No one really sails there though.

No shops that stock gear we all get ours from down south or west.

no gear hire at the moment

water is deep.. its the ocean. As for formula u'll be the only one.

holiday accom units available directly across from sailing spot at yorkeys knob. brand new about 350 p/w i think. this is where we all sail.

not sure why u would need to organise a windsurf holiday just roll up at the beach or catch the ferry to green.

Green is the best. went over on sunday. bout 30-35 all day and all night. but formula at green....say goodbye to your beloved fins.

20-25 all day... not on the coast at green yes just watch the graphs for a bit when they forecast wind for up here and u'll see

conditions vary between all of the above.some waves ina good blow speed on the flats at green. bump and jump and slalom most of the time.

Green is consistanltly the windiest place in Qld over winter.

i put my holiday to Maui off because the last few trips to green have been sensational.

hope it helps

thanks troppo and windy bum (what's that smell!!)

all the info is excellent. I am planning the trips for the windwanderers. i gotta see how many people interested yet. otherwise i will pack the car with familly in tow and head up stopping off along the way. i have done a couple of road trips in the past up north but usually stopped at bundaberg. this time i will go to elliot heads earlier than the usuall pilgramage. i think easter is a bit late in the season.

i wouldn't mind trying out kinka north of Rocky. near emu park... have you guys sailed there before. i have googled it and it looks nice.

i always take the formula in case the wind doesn't happen. my insurance policy.

thanks for the help.
