Hi there, my husband and I are planning an extended holiday from January to April 2011. I used to live and work in Melbourne, so naturally Australia would be #1 for me.
What we would like to do is: Mostly stay in one place, rent an apartment/house close to the ocean and car and go windsurfing every day. We are considering to bring our own gear. Although it might be a problem, not to speak of costs to fly it down-under.
We are looking for a spot that is WINDY during those three months, not waves only, since we both like flat water, but don't mind chops or swell. Any ideas?
Since we have not decided yet where to go, we are also looking at other options around the world: Cape Verde, The Caribbean (Bonaire, Aruba, Barbados seem to be windy that time). Does anybody have any experience with these places?
Thanks for any advice! (Can't wait for December)

Geraldton WA, has it all....rent a house they are cheap, sail allday everyday. Coronation beach has a massive bay that has flatwater one side and wave on the other, it's perfect. Or there is flatwater off St Georges beach in the town itself. Spend some time at Monkey Mia, pure flatwater and the dolphins like to sail with you.

If your interested you can check out my blog from my holiday in feb of this year, missed about 3 days in 4 weeks.

Agree it's about the closest to stated requirements.
You may sail every day in Jan with a lot of luck and some big gear, but you certainly won't do that in April.

There used to be hire gear available, there, not sure now.

A big 'ta' to you all! I had a look at your blog, Jason, it looks awesome. We'll have a closer look at Geraldton and Coronation and, who knows, maybe we'll meet there next year.

Hi Jason, can you recommend any houses to stay at there, and a rough idea of how much they cost?
