Hi all,
I have come over from the Boards forum, trying to get some more people to help me with a challenge I have set myself for 2011.
Last febuary I suffered a rather big heart attack, being only 35 and quite fit, healthy eater etc it was a big shock in more than one way!

Windsurfing has taken over nearly every part of my life in the past 3 years, like most of you I close my eyes at night thinking about it, and check the forecast religiously when I wake up. The biggest worry I had as I lay in hospital was whether I would get on the water again. Within 5 weeks I had a session (albeit quite a brief one in the chilly april waters!). As the year has passed I managed more sessions than ever before and I started thinking about how I could do something to help others who have suffered from heart conditions, as I fully understand what it does to peoples confidence and hope for the future.

I decided to set myself the goal of windsurfing 1000nm and raise ??1000 to go to the British Heart Foundation (which does research that is internationally recognised!). If I can raise over ??1000 then I will endeavour to match it pound for mile sailed - bearing in mind I work as a teacher and cant just drop my work when the wind blows unfortunately.

I have set up a blog -

www.redsurfbus.com/

this is just the starting point and will be updated a lot over the coming weeks ready for the start of 2011.

Thanks for your time and hopefully your support. On a side note I cant wait to get over there to have a sail at some point in my life, I have many friends who have buggered off from the UK and must visit them sometime. And also thanks for all the info I have got from this site as a lurker in the past.

Hi Leigh, great story!.

IMO, you would benefit from integrating your blogger blog with a facebook fan page.

Everyone is on facebook these days and you are more likely to get people to read your updates, and have your updates, vids, pics go viral on facebook..

keeps people more engaged and brings your content to them as opposed to them to your content.

Good luck with it and email me if you need assistance .

Thanks for the Link to Sarah Hebert, I have emailed her and had a read.

@theWaterboy, I have just spent the past two hours trying to link the blogto my facebook page through notes, came back on here to see what you said and it was to do a facebook fan page - so something totally different to what I thought you said :-S Perhaps I shouldnt do this techy stuff first thing in a morning when I have not eaten anything.
I will have a look into it, thanks for the advice.

Okay, I think I have done a page on facebook like you meant. Thanks for the advice, hopefully it will get the challenge out to a wider audience.
