I am interested in people's solutions for wet gear in the back of your car. Boards ans sails will span several rows of seats. How do you keep the water out? Dry before? what coverings work best? Currently use some towels but suspect there are better solutions.

Big plastic bin in boot for the wearable gear.

After i roll up the sail i stand it up against a tree or the car so the batten pockets and film can drain. So leach end on the ground. Sleeve end in the air. This removes nearly all the water.

Boom same as sail but not as effective.

I got a waterproof sailbag made up by a sailmaker. It is able to carry 4 sails in it, in their bags, and is some sort of lined material. It was as much for carrying gear across to a sailing spot as anything else, but it kept the moisture inside.

All my gear is on an angle with low end at the rear. Only ever had water end up near the tailgate and very little of it, so an extra piece of carpet protects it well enough

Mystic SUP car bag and tarp underneath that for "extra confidence". Wipe gear down with a towel before putting it in the car.

I bought an old jumbo sized Thule roof box and put everything in there. Holds a board, 3 masts, 4 sails and boom. Second board rides beside it.

How small are your boards, I've got the biggest box they make and it's no where close, even a 7.8sail and 490 mast is to long

Board on the roof, large plastic box for wetsuit, fins, extension, base etc, mast in bag and sails and boom go over front seat so slope to wards the rear and I just put a small plastic tray there to catch what water runs out.

Don't rest wet sails up against seat belts, after 4 years the seat belt has swollen with salt to twice it's normal thickness and next to useless

After folding rear seats flat, covered the whole back with a cut to fit piece of white plastic 1/16" thick used to make walls waterproof from HomeDepot, $20 for a 4'x8' sheet. Drained board goes in board bag, sail luff end goes in a 20L vinyl dry bay from Walmart $6, wet clothes go in another 20L dry bag, let boom drain tail down then place a microfiber hand towel under tail in car.

Esky with a few mid strength beers in it. Leave gear drying for half hour while drinking beer and talking about windsurfing, put in car

Wave and foil boards. Max mast length is 430 in that box.

I dry all my gear off with a towel. Then put it in the back of my pick up truck for a proper blow dry while driving home. Then gear comes out of the truck, gets layed out for an air dry next. My gear is spoiled, as we are happy campers

I run a webbing strap between all of the car handholds, with a plastic adjustable buckle. I can put a board on the webbing, tighten it up a little and it is out of the way and does not get damaged. Not sure what the police would say.

^^^ Similar, my boards go from rear of wagon to sit on top of the passenger seat headrest. More than two boards though, and they want to fall over sometimes, so a cut down board tie-down strap goes from the boardbag (nose) to the hand rail

I used to buy cars worth about 1/10 of the value of my windsurfing gear, which lasted 1-3 years, so tilted the passenger seat back, and put all sails, booms and masts into the footwell, and drilled holes in the footwell floor. boards on the roof. problem solved. I now have a semi decent van, so catch all water in a tub, as others have suggested, and leave it to fester.

I use an Ocean and Earth wetty bucket to keep all my wet gear (wetsuit, pfd, harness, helmet, booties, mast base). Works great as the bucket bag has a foam base which lets the water drain to the bottom so gear doesn't fester in its own water. When I get home I put the hose in the bucket bag and use it to rinse everything.
