What happened to the gentlemans agreement that the Windsurfers would stay on the Bent St side of the sand bar and the kiters on the yacht club side, out of each others way?
Seems to me it is only a matter of time before there is a 'coming together'...
Sorry to say but the kiters are worse for showing no understanding of the laws of the water, especially giving way to others on a starboard run when on a port run themselves.
Where to from here, anyone else see this as an accident waiting to happen, or maybe it already has?

Hmmmm... I think some poley bloke got cleaned up out in the sound last summer... You'd have to be tryin' to run into one another out there!!!

On a separate note, BIG cheers to the kiter somewhere northwest of Perth city today that gave me way numerous times... There were only a few of us on the break and he was a COMPLETE champ

kiters rule oh yeh and yeh windsurfers aim for us but lets face it we r faster more manouverable and a hell of alot cooler i dont know though eddia and stewie at safety bay are pretty cool but there like the best if u think about it even crap kiters are cool so become a kiter and join the revolution or be a windsurfer and hopes someone makes a new design for sails which makes it a bit easier

I've been over to Safety Bay a few times over the last 3 years. I went there with Go Windsurfing and they told me about the "gentleman's agreement" that the kiters stay to one side out at the point and the learner windsurfers the other.

The problem I see with this is that there is no way you would know that unless someone told you. When I was there some of the guys would take the time to talk to the kiters, but you can understand why a kiter new to the area wouldn't have any idea about this agreement. They see this nice shallow area and think it's a great place to sail. They are probabably wondering why people are aiming for them, but don't realise why.

I don't think they realise how much of a risk they can be to a windsurfer and themselves. On the other hand I have been sailing in that area with some kiters there as well. The one's that know what they are doing and are in control don't cause me any problem. Once you start to realise that they know what they're doing then you forget all about them. It's the one's that don't seem to be too aware that are the problem. There are windsurfers there that have the same problem, but they are easier to avoid.

Maybe we need a sign that says 'cool people' to the right and others to the left? That'll work!

Whoa...slow down there Kite Boy- take a big deep breath and relax when posting- no need to rush!
I sense a feeling of jealousy towards Poleys that may stem from your failure in learning to windsurf before 'joining the revolution' of the Danglers. Respect those that have achieved what you failed to accomplish and they in turn will respect you.

Hey Greeny, I agree there is no break at North Mullas but the wind seems to be a good 5kts stronger than anywhere south of Hillaries. It's good for an arm stretcher/bump n jump & gets a few good rollers the further you venture out.
I'd just like to add that the kiters who go there (2nd carpark) are very good at conflict avoidance & know the rules of the water, nice going guys.

Pugs, might seeya at the ****** on Sat if it's on, make the gap & reap the rewards eh...!

If that's the case it's pretty unfortunate. It's true there are idiot windsurfers just as there are idiot kiters. As far as i'm concerned it's just about mutual respect, after all we are both just wind/water junkies with a slightly different approach. I sail amongst kiters at my local break all the time as these days they are the majority. I know them all well and we all have a ball. Sure, at times when you're on that perfect wave and a kite is sailing out through the break it can be annoying but it goes both ways. This whole US vs Them thing is ridiculous. The most annoying thing is them constantly saying "so you getting a kite yet?"; no chance lads :D
