Head down to your local spot and introduce yourself, someone will be able to give you a hand, there not the easiest to learn on when rigged properly but are absolute pigs when not rigged properly. If you pick a windy day the locals might not want to spare much time, just rig it as best you can and ask for advice when they come in for a break. Follow there advice and coppy there rigging technique until you get it right. First time out aim for less than 10 knts, get someone to show you the crossover hand method and how leaning the mast for and aft affects the board positioning.

There is regular Windsurfer OneDesign racing based at Narrabeen Lakes Sailing Club. They have a fleet of typically 6 to 12 each Saturday ranging in skill from beginners to weight division national champions. Briefing is usually at 1pm at the Club. You would be very welcome to join in and give it a go - we are keen to grow the fleet. Your board looks to be in excellent condition. Yes, the sail (& maybe the boom) might need replacing but we can give you advice on that when we see it on the water. Racing starts around 1:30, and we usually have 4 races of about 25min each. First race for 2013 is today Sat 5 January - hope to see you there.

Made it to the start, just. Thanks to the bloke that fixed my mastbase. First time I'd rigged it and way too little downhaul for the breeze. Also had a de-lam so had to retire from the race. Really happy with the board. Need to work really hard on fitness and technique to get fast.

Alternatively some of us have some not too old WOD sails that we could let go for a small but fair price. Might see you at Narra next week.

Thanks for the compliment Chris, doesn't happen that often; the cheque's in the mail I hope you won't be too surprised to see me sailing next time with a new'ish (one year old) sail I purchased from Jorn. That old sail has delaminated further with the 'pockets' now filling up & holding water. Not a good look or that comfortable to practice with.

I got the board for $250, then $50 for the rig. The board is absolutely mint - not a single blemish, not even on the skeg or centreboard.

The sail died of old age, plus 20kts of unwanted breeze.

That said, it should be a pretty good light wind sail.

Amazing that we found its younger brother, #1771!

The" Take off" should be taken to lake Illawarra with its retractale twinnie setup and teach those steallers a lesson in their own weed .Also its no good for doing cool railrides.
Go with the wallie - the board with the biggest windrange and the ultimate one board quiver.

Went out on the new second hand wally this arvo at Yarra Bay. Got my $50 worth already. Must be about 7-8 yrs since I last had one. Pulled off a few tricks. Just like riding a bike. Bit rusty but had fun. Sure is a good workout. Nothing like that sore but good sore feeling.
