Calling anyone with a Windsurfer One Design (retracting centreboard version) under the house.....
If you don't want it, please contact me. We can probably line you up with a buyer and can certainly take donated boards for our kids and beginners programme.
If you do want your great old Wally, let's get it wet. There's a Windsurfer OD regatta at Dobroyd Aquatic Club, Iron Cove (inner west Sydney) coming up on December 10th and 11th. Both experts and less experienced sailors are very welcome.
Other regattas will be in February, March and April. We got 55 boards for the last states and the class is growing again.
Dobroyd races each Wednesday evening through daylight saving. We get 7-12 boards racing (with more to come when exams are over and the weather improves) and also about 8+ beginners out getting coaching before the race. Then it's off up the road for pizza, wine and lies.
Barracouta have also built some nice 4.5m and 3.5m sails for beginners and kids. We're hoping to build up a kid's class and these are not the old pinheads people used to use, but baby versions of the standard 6m - one full batten to create a sail that twists off nicely, two short battens to keep the sail light. They are a huge improvement over the old sails in speed and handling.
We are looking at getting kids moving onto Windsurfers in Belmont, and there's also fleets at Narrabeen and Parkdale in Melbourne.
