Is there any windsurfing life on the Central Coast (1.5hr north of Sydney).

I've been out of the sport for 15 years and thinking of getting back in. I live on the Central Coast but havn't seen any popular locations.

Toowoon Bay good in a southerly(The Entrance)
Birdie Beach for a Nor-easter
Soldiers Beach for a Nor-easter (Norah Head)
Just a few places but there are plenty more.
Tomorrow's forecast 20-25knots southerly so will b good at Toowoon Bay.
Unfortunately im off the water for a few weeks after an operation on my knee this week.

Hi Domk, you sound like you have some local knowledge

How high is Chittaway point in the Tugerah lakes. Would you be able to sail just to leeward of it as a speed run in a stiff southerly? I was looking at it on google but couldn't tell if it just pops out of the water or if they are towering cliffs. Thanks

Box Head, ie the northern end of Umina beach where the entrance to Brisbane waters is. That is a great spot when a massive south swell is running and exposed beaches are out of control for us mortals.

I go there when the wind direction is between S and S/W. A bit of west in it is good. I do not know how it works in other directions. In a S to S/W you sail out over the shallow sand bar, turn and then full speed south in to the waves. It is a fantastic place for those big winter southerlies.

Hey little jon, there is also a coulpe of lakes around the joint...tuggerah lakes, lake munmorah and lake macquarie (the deepest and biggest along with a lot more options). But as donk said Toowoon Bay is a great place for any level of sailor from flat water to waves in a southerly.
Hey Donk what did ya do to your knee?

Canton beach (nr. Toukley) at the top Tuggerah Lake of is a good location when the wind is in a S to W range (SW is the best). Its shallow and wave less there and I found it a good safe location for getting the skills/confidence back.

Just looked at the forecast and this Sunday morning (25 Mar) is looking good for a bit of speed sailing

There is a downside, there is a lot of weed A good weed fin is mandatory.
