The standard curved GoPro mount (stick on) was close enough to the profile on top of my Gath.

Then a bit of kite string, from one I shot down, makes a good tether thru the vents on the top.
Used a garden poly pipe hose clamp thingy to clip on with as they can be repoened easily

I use a Protec Ace Wake. Found them a heap more comfortable than a Gath. And the curved go pro mounts work well.

Same here, got the Ace Protec Wake helmet. Got the curved Gopro mount Mark speaks of too. All good but the adhesive pad was about as sticky at Clag glue. Ended up putting a good blob of Selleys Kwik Grip- she's rock solid now.

Saw a guy at rye a couple of weeks ago that had his mounted to the top of his helmet on a short stand . Looked strangely familiar

You can buy Gath helmets with the GoPro mount already attached (screwed)

It helps to clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol (from Bunnings). I've used those mounts for mountain biking, kite surfing, snowboarding and racing at 200kph around Barbagallo. Yet to have one come off. Still teather it though, paranoia.

How do you secure the Gopro housing with a safety line? I do not seem to have a part that fits to the housing ?!?!

Those ones with a rope around the screw knobby end in that link don't look real flash.

Kite line or good synthetic twine thru the back door hinge pin are reputedly best.

Trouble is a really hard pull and that hinge pin pops out (its how u remove the back door) so essentially you are not tethering the camera with either this way or the one in the link above.
But at least with this the rope can't just slip off.
