Hey all. Does anyone know of windsurfing communities in New Zealand? I'm apparently going there in August, South Island near Nelson but could be going other places too.

Hey,
m.facebook.com/Dunedin-Windsports-Association-131344916898137/
For Dunedin sailors and m.facebook.com/Canterbury-Windsports-Association-404796356412/ Canterbury windsurfing are the biggest clubs in south island.
If your down south water is still pretty fresh that time of year so bring a good wetsuit.

Some windsurfing in Nelson but lots of kitiing and SUPing in the bay.

Looks like I'd be on the sup. Just found out that I've got to go there in July. So the weather will either be crap or dead calm. Either way, I'm still looking forward to the trip/visit.

If skiing/ snowboarding are your thing then you could get down to some of the northern ski fields like Rainbow within a couple of hours. It's the right time of year.

Head west from Nelson to Collingwood. The westerly winds there pushes up along the southern alps along the west coast and exit around Collingwood. Southwest winds created and upwards of 40knots. But thats not a short drive from Nelson

You need a very, very good wetsuit for the South island in July. It's bloody cold.
