In June I am travelling to China for a couple of months then down to south east asia for a further couple of months. I was wondering if anybody knows of any good spots to hire gear and windsurf there, i will be closer to the east coast most of the time.

Juzz, red from Vic spent a few weeks in Vietnam last year at a resort that was windsurfing related. Didn’t cost a lot had good gear in package and was well worth the trip.
Send him an email to get the web page for the resort

I spent a few days windsurfing at Boracay Island in the Philippines about a year ago. Awesome place to sail and party (hard) on afterwards. Boracay is also on the Asian tour. Check out www.boracaywindsurfing.com
Pretty sure (can't remember now), for $40 per day you've got your pick of Mistral, JP and Neil Pryde hire gear.
Only downside is you need booties coz of sea urchins...and the cr@ppy rusty plane trip to get there!!
Highly recommended anyway...
