... what would the windrange be for a 100kg sailor on the (8.5sqm) sail below?

sorry no-one has answered :-(
NP are saying this sail is good for an 80 kg sailor in 7 to 12 knots!!
are they knots ?
i too am around 100 kilos
my 8.5 does not have cams, but is great around 15 to 20 knots
under that I use a 10.0 TR-4 race type sail - from 10 to 15 knots
the 8.5 can be used under 15 knots, planing starts to suffer for heavyweights
an 8.5 is a GREAT sail for people of our numbers

you can use the james douglass sail calculator for estimates
it states 16 knots for 100 kilos with 8.5

Helium is specifically designed for light winds to get you planing early. It won't get you going as fast as most cammed sails but it does the job for light winds. Not sure how well it has taken off, seen a few around but equally a lot of guys just seem to be opting for the H2 or hellcat.

I have found out the hard way today that it the weight of the sailor probably does not matter much.

NP are pretty spot on (12 knots) - even for my 100kg. Around 2.00 - 2.30pm the wind at Lake Illawarra has picked up so much that I could not hold the sail in neutral - probably because of the deep profile.

Thanks for your earlier replies!

winds really picked up - how many knots ??
deep profile - can you apply more outhaul ??

some formula guys less than 100 kilos use 10.0 up to 20 knots !!
that is a bit hairy, butt 100 kilos with an 8.5 is good up to 20 knots as well ...

hope ya enjoyed it :-)

Oh yes, I've enjoyed it very much until I had to switch to "survival mode" to get back to shore. Until the wind got to strong it did it's job very well: It felt very light and got me planing. It felt even lighter then my Excess 9.9 (!) which I have tried after. But by then I was so buggered...

As you've mentioned before, the Helium is a light wind sail (next to no loose leech)and I could not change the Out- or Down haul.
