Im sure your thinking *so what, this belongs in the kite-surfing forum*. But wait theres more :)
At lesson 2 she watched me get the crap beat outa me on the sand and expected me to come to my senses (2 hours later I bought a kite). 6 hours later she wanders through my putor and finds (kitemare.com) and declares im not doing kite surfing & pulls the tear`s card on me :( So given I love my wife I agree but whine ill still have nothing to do on windy days when taking the outrigger canoe out on the bay is awefull. She then says why dont you try windsurfing.
To put an end to this tale. How did this sport escape my radar of really great sports to do? After trying it & getting lessons, I couldnt possibly be happier with wind surfing. Oh and the wife is having some lessons as well wich makes it so much easier when I blow cash on gear = but its for us babe :) !!!!
Anyway I was so excited I wanted to share this little story.

Cheers
4paws.

Got a store credit & wife chipped in a few extra bickys for some nice windsurfing gear. Pretty much a win win situation.

Hi 4Paws,

Welcome to the club!

The difference between windsurfing and kiteboarding is that it takes a fair bit of skill to really stuff things up when you're windsurfing... and it's supremely addictive

can relate

After playing around for quite a few years with cars, modifying, drags etc my beloved was realy happy for me to get into surfing, windsurfing and the associated expence

The trick is to find something which is worse than what you want in reality, that way you can compromise to what you realy want do do as a more accepted alternative, Everybody wins

Even better is that although I suggested it as an alternative, she seems pretty set that it was her idea. And was willing to make up the $$ difference *something she would never have done with the kite idea*

& /agree elmo.
I rode motor bikes for alot of years slowly going from rice burners to classics to magazines about classics to a nagging feeling in the back of my mind saying damn I should be on a bike today.

But im over it, theres something about getting out on the water or the mountain bike (least on my outrigger I stay ontop of the water:) and enjoying life at its natural pace wich is sometimes furious and sometimes just sweet.
Or it could be im just turning into an old bald hippy.

Welcome back from the dark side 4paws!!!! You will never regret it Mate!!!!!

I think the biggest rush is that windsurfing fuel is free!
Surging (or even just cruising) on fresh air!!! It don't hurt (too much) when you come off either... ...unike them two-wheeled things...

Welcome aboard Fourpaws,
Just leave your wallet with you local windsurf shop. Easier that way.

PS
You do not realise how many friends you've made by leaving the "Dark Side".

Cheers mate :)
Its already proved to be a blessing. The wife really enjoyed the lesson we had recently and wants more ! Wich of course makes any further purchases alot easier to justify as ill *be buying it for us hun* :)
I picked some gear wich in 6months will be great, but for now its a world of splash. But im having a ball none the less.

If theres anyone else about whos a total newb like myself I found something fun and sorta handy

Sorta ironic that 6 years in the Navy and I never learnt how to sail the wind :(

I searched it out after I kept stalling from sheeting in too much(on the few times I managed not to fall in after 10 seconds of getting the mast up).

Oh wow! The wind strength changes!! This 33 knot breeze is much more like it!! Cant get the spray over the foredeck, crashing through waves though.
Nice work Elmo!!
