I don't think any of these are boards are 'race boards' there too wide for slalom (not legal), and too small for course racing competitively.

There meant to combine the early planning of a formula (and less technical to start planning) and still be comfortable for back and forth sailing, in medium winds.

Why is there the rule to limit slalom boards to 85cms wide for slalom racing?

I can't comment on the other boards but as an owner of a JP SLW 90, for a 100 kg guy I would call the JP your medium wind slalom board. . If there is indeed a 95cm wide freerace available then I would be giving it a serious look if I were you. JP also make a 92 cm wide 165 litre version of the SLW that they claim is more supersport oriented.

Whatever board you choose, if you have the cash this purchase is a no brainer for a guy of your weight. My time on the water has quadrupled since I bought mine.

If you are a lightweight you can get by with a 75-80cm board

Disadvantage of going bigger,you lose top speed.

New 2013 sonic 110 at 75cm wide could still give excellent bottom end,while still maintaining feel,although never sailed it!

The 80.5cm wide 117 sonic i have sailed,felt pretty big,planed amazing but not the greatest amount of feel.

Tabou Manta 85cm and Mistral 82cm wide were both good.

75cm is as big as i'd go.

just saw the Ultrasonic on the beach this arvo, wow !!! a race boat !!

93.5 cm large !! fin looked like 70 cm. The guy rigged a 10m TR6 on it and was planing in 8knts ....

I picked it up, it seems as light as a 100 l !!

I agree, have owned one for a year or so...nice lightwind board. get a stiff fin around 58cm and its even more fun (i am 87 kilo and have sailed it with 8.5, 9.3 or 10.3m).

planes earlier than my 80.5cm futura 141 when using the same sails - which i think you have to expect as its 13cm wider!!

I havent sailed the others so cant compare for you.
