Woke this morning at 6am and the wind was blowing outside. I thought, damn I reckon I can down to my favorite spot, take my work clothes, get in a quick blast, and then go straight to work.

I got my sail in and was feeling pretty rapt that I'd pulled off a quick sail before work and then promptly reversed into a tree, smashed the rear window of the subaru and bent the rear door.

It didn't look that bad to me, save for the fact the whole window shattered.

Windscreens O'brien quoted $2000 for the rear window but wouldn't do it as there was a minor dent in rear hatch. Panel beater reckons a couple of thousand!

I'm like WTF?!?!?

That's gonna turn my morning into a $4000 session!

Could have been a bit more expensive with someone in between your car and the tree...

Not good news at all!

Shop around for you back window, depending on model, you may pick a secondhand one up at a wreckers, or a parts importer. Also check Ebay, sometimes imported stuff shows up there. Factory 'genuine' parts are usually poisonously expensive, see if you can find something aftermarket.

Good luck, Glen.

Rear windows always are... cos they don't sell quite as many as windscreens. Pure profiteering

That is why I installed tow bar.
I didn't try it but may help on the tight parking space save paint on your bumper too

2000 model Subaru Outback station wagon. Seems they are particularly unusual and O'brien's use genuine part.

I have a tow bar. Damn tree had a curve in trunk so went straight into window and didn't touch tow bar or bumper!

Luckily for me I "inherited" the car from my partner 2 weeks ago when we got her a newer car and she had fully insured it so I will only have to pay $600 excess. Also most luckily I had sold my old bomb at same time and the money has already been spent on new Board

So the friggen tree can't take that away from me.

Don't use them they are a rip, generally halve what they say for a reasonable repairer, they operate purely off their name!

Yeah. I've opened the garage door. Put her in reverse. Carefully turned the nose between the other parked car and the side of the doo.... BANG!
Ah. Somebody has parked behind me.

Also, I put dad's '77 Carrera off a cliff. "...Oh. Really? Do you think you can limp it back home?" "Er, not really dad, I'm lucky to be alive is what the car looks like. The tow truck's 30m cable can just barely reach it." Came about 50cm from doing a Peter Brock. Yeah, that was not my greatest day either.

It is always better to have a bad day at the beach, then a good day at work.

How does that feel gregob

That is true. I would have to agree with that sentiment. But it doesn't quite match the Ferris Bueler proportions of Evilpandas unfortunate predicament.

I read a great self help book once that had a key phrase "you can handle it". I think we can amend it to "if EP can handle it, anyone can handle it!"
