Flicking through the channels last night around midnight I came across a docco on channel 7 that caught my attention. In fact it was something that I had seen many years ago called "Van Diemen's Land by Butterfly". Made in 86, it is the first circumnavigation of tassie by sailboard. It was amazing to watch the big swells and high winds of western tassie being tackled with F2 long boards and triangle sails!! In fact they did feature some "high tech" sails... first generation NP RAF waves I think! Kinda cool to see how much the sport has changed in a relatively short time.
I was wondering if anyone else caught the program or knows what the three intrepid sailors are up to now? Their names were Rick Burnup, Elise Waring and Kevin Walton or Golly (I think). I would be interest to know if they still sail or if they had any other adventures.
I see them all a fair bit. They have seen the light and are now loveing kitesurfing They were out yesterday with their boardies over their wetsuits doing huge dangle jumps close to the beach.aawwwwwssssooooome. Sorry, couldnt help myself
Can I borrow someones flame suit?Must be in the colours of yellow and pink dots though lol
that tv special was really cool at the the time, although they conficted a lot towards the end...still good.
elise came and visited me at my little shop in the early nineties with a t-shirt brand aimed at "sailboarders" and i said that "windsurfers" might be a bit more hip.

she said windsurfing was a lame term.
windsurfing around tassie is fully sick though!
I think "Butterfly Boarders" would have been a much more hip term
