I was reading the kite forum and i noticed a post on the nats they are having at gero. I would like to know as im sure many other people what is happening with it with ours??? Like if you need helpers etc better to speak out now while you have a chance otherwise you might be s*&%ing yourslef closer to the event.

Iv notice they (the tea baggers) have the redbull team going up there and giving out free drink, anything like that happening?? would be pretty cool

Anyway just wondering thats all

It's all very quiet on the WWA front. I believe there are have a go day's in about a month, but you would only know that if you visited their web site, and the only ones likely to do that are members/windsurfers who are already having a go! How about a Acrobat (black and white) document with the details that current windsurfers could print out and put up at work(Just a thought).
As for news of the nat's, what nats
Seems the kitesurfers have learned to use the net a bit more effectively than WWA.
I for one will be putting a 'Join WWA' link on my site to help out. Any one else up for it?

in terms of WWA there is lots going on, you just need to look for it.
Our new brochure and calendars are starting to reach shops so go into you local shop and grab one.
All members should have been sent a copy of the brochure, newsletter etc, so if you aint a members and you want to know whats going on, sign up!

I think you got it in a nutshell Chad

How about making the info more avaliable, you have a "forum" here to tell quite a few windsurfers what is going on, provide links and info.
That way we don't have to scour the web and get information second hand.

Hi Guys,
well, suggestions always welcome. There's a post a bit older where we announced that the new site was up, with the calendar. We also asked for people's opinion as to how we can improve things, we'll do our best.
Regarding a link for joining WWA, I thought it was obvious from the homepage at www.windsurfingwa.org.au, but seems i'm wrong, so maybe i'll try to spell it in French :) (my first language)

Regarding the Nats, you can check the details there:

http://www.windsurfingwa.org.au/eventdetail.php?eventid=81

and check with the contact details/sponsors to see what's going on...

Cheers,
Laurent

I like the idea of publishing and abstracted version of the committee meeting minutes on the web some where mainly because if i wasnt attending meetings i would like to know what is being discussed in the meetings. I see WWA as a public entity. But this issue has divided committee members.

How can WWA better communicate what we are doing?
Why shall we try to communicate to non-members is the other issue?

WAKSA have their own forum thingo under the kiting section. If WWA did the same then people who wasn't part of the association would be able to see what is going on. It would also make life a lot easier for people to see what is going on. I mean everyone uses this forum and on the WWA web site it said that tseabreeze forums would be the forum they use. Now to me it doesn't look tht way. Topics come and go pretty quickly so if a notice is placed in the general bit, then it may be off the page in a few days.

Also it is very easy to say, join up to see what is happening but for people who want to know what it is about how are they to know without joining up. Personaly i think WWA should be more open to the public instead of a closed socitey. We all love windsurfing, so lets make it easier for everyone

Well thats my two bobs worth

To me this is not the right attitude WWA should be taking if they want to attract new members. I agree with shmage, if WWA wanted to grow then surley they would want to communicate with as many people as they can. It makes no sense to me why they would not make information available to the general public if they are trying to grow the sport and increase numbers at WWA events.

Im not a WWA member, fortunantly i know where to get the info when i decide to look into it but i bet there many windsurfers who dont visit the forums or wwa website, does WWA realy want to shut these people out?

If the members of WWA knew what had been discussed at previous meetings and the agenda for the next meeting or future meetings I think more people would come along and have a say, but only when the discussion is relevant to their particular interest.
Having to come along just to find out what's happening puts people off and if we all came along it would just bog down the meetings.
Displaying the minutes of the meetings would be good for this purpose and in a members only area on the WWA web site could keep it private and secure.

CRITICISE IF ONLY YOU ARE WILLING TO CONTRIBUTE.
thats why im here. cause WWA really annoyed me last year so i thought i could improve things this year, looking at the more professional and attractive membership form and brochures that shops can give out to customers, i think my input has been worth while.
yes it has been hard to get it all together but nothing ever was achieved with a bit of committment..

i totally agree that WWA is a public entity and everyone should know what happens there,,
we all visit seabreeze more often than the wwa site so why not put a section in the Windsurfing forum just for WWA notices..
there are lots of forums on the webs lets not create another one on the WWA web site,, we have come to the decision to use seabreeze instead.

"I think more people would come along and have a say, but only when the discussion is relevant to their particular interest."
"Having to come along just to find out what's happening puts people off and if we all came along it would just bog down the meetings."
good point, so maybe we should publish the meeting agendas a week or so prior on seabreeze then, would you guys like this idea,

"Displaying the minutes of the meetings would be good for this purpose and in a members only area on the WWA web site could keep it private and secure"
some people are suggesting that non-WWA members should also have this information too?

one thing to note, WWA is volunteer based, so WWA comes 2nd to our work and our daily lives. With volunteers you cant sack them cause they are not doing a good enough job, nor can you force them to work harder than they can... so this is one issue WWA committee faces..

But i am a committee member and i totally understand where you guys are coming from.
a simple feedback like: why arent you a member Tozza is what wwa needs to know.
what does WWA need to do to attract your membership or
what do you want from WWA.

committee meetings are 2 hours once a fortnight...
you guys are more than welcome to sign up and come along!

There's always room for improvement, and I admit the kiting crew has been quite good on communication, but I think they have much more at stake with all councils starting to worry about kiters. That's been a big driver.

Regarding the online forum, the reason we re-direct people to Seabreeze is simply because that's where it's happening. We've actually had online forum before Seabreeze, believe it or not, and they're still accessible there http://www.windsurfingwa.org.au/phorum332/. But over 2 years, we've averaged 30 posts...not much of a success. That's why we've decided to move across to Seabreeze. Just made more sense. I guess we could ask Laurie to set up a WWA forum, just like the WAKSA one for all WWA communication.

Cheers,
Laurent

If the demand is there for a WindsurfingWA forum in here (just like kites have their WAKSA forum hosted here), I have no hesitation in adding it.

The problem faced is that some folk only go into the "official" forum occasionally, so not everybody knows what's going on. My vote would be for WWA to post messages in this main forum, perhaps prefixing their topics with "WindsurfingWA: ".

Open to suggestions..

Is it too much to ask for laurie if we could have a WWA forum section please.
we intend to use Seabreeze as our official discussion forum and it would be easier for us than publishing stuff on the web.
Can someone is WWA have the ability to be the moderator of the forum section?

Sounds like a good idea to put minutes up on the website and have links posted in forums to the relevent information. It really seems as though the internet is the most cost effective and easy way to distribute information but do the masses of windsurfers out there visit these sites very often? Perhaps WWA can get some signs made up so when u go to ur local spot u put up ur sign just with maybe the web address to try and prompt ppl to do more research? - just a thought.
As for me One day I intend to become a member, but really atm i dont have the time of finances ... still need my own car to get down sailing! still paying off new board :p and none of my mates windsurf so still go out for a drink with them. But ill prolly come down and watch a few races this year see what goes on.
