With the complete lack of breeze that WA has been getting over the last week or so, I've been getting back into some of my other hobbies. Ones that I can do when there is no breeze and some that I can do no matter what the weather.

So, what do the rest of us all get up to on those days away from the water?

This is one of mine

and this one another: (which also gets used with windsurfing, but hey)

You can get little rf video cameras designed for the model helicopters. I was looking at getting one for mine when I had one.

Well we bought 3 acres of land in Tassie and when it is not blowing I used to grab a mattock and dig out the wattle trees that were taking over the block. After nearly 2 years I've finally got it all done. Now I'm just waiting for some more wind.

I haven't tried, and probably won't on this chopper. Aerial photography and video is something I have done a lot of serious thinking about, I've just never had the cash and the specific motivation to try it.
Lots of other people have, however. The aerial UAV market is growing as well - draganfly.com which the Canadian Police are now using - www.calgaryherald.com/Entertainment/Saskatoon+police+mini+helicopter+crime+scenes/1372409/story.html.

When there is no breeze here, guys sits around, showing off expensive gear and whingeing they're too good for the 15 knots that's out there.

I often go windsurfing. Cruising, racing or training in light winds can be great fun with the right gear.

If I had anything bigger than a 6.0, yes, I'd be out on the water too. Hell, I've been wanting to get out with the 4.6 on a 10-12kt day, so I can practise some freestyle things (heli tacks, etc) but the breeze hasn't even been consistent enough for that.

I'm building a cedar strip kayak.. It doubles as a 'what to do when it's dark outside' activity. In theory, once it's finished, it's still a what to do when there's no breeze thing too.

MUCH more interesting/relaxing/fulfilling than the rubbish on TV, and my 1y/o daughter likes nothing better than "helping" by tipping out buckets of wood shavings all over the workshop!

I've just brought a kayak and into fishing as well, so combining both. Definitely good when no wind. Caught a good size flathead this morning in the shallows with a mate. Good vibes all round!

Yeah I know what you mean. Too bad - Narrabeen is an OK place to practice 15-18 knot freestyle on a N-E.

Having said that, when there is "no wind", I go on the sailboat with the missus, have a bottle o' wine. That buys me some time for when the wind does pick up. The ratio is about 3-to-1. ;)

Brilliant! When I was much younger, there was a young dude (mid 20's i think then), who was building a catamaran with the plans to retire and sail it around Australia. I spent many quality Sunday afternoons chatting with him as he tinkered and built.

I must admit, i have a bit of a craving with wood shavings as well. The current project that need some time and love is a celtic harp.
