I really like my two Tecno Limits King booms. Even though they aren't carbon they are fairly stiff and they seem to be ablt to take bit of beating...

yes, tecnolimitz are good, but weigh a ton. To me its not only about how tough a boom is but how light it is. My next boom will be super light or i wont buy it. I think the North booms are the best I have seen so far for 2010. They have a good weight, feel strong and have the new i-front clamp on them, wich is really a great design. The prices they sell for too are the best i have seen if you want to buy new.

Is a light boom a bad thing if you are light ?

I was thinking that myself Jerry, but then I remembered that I am a fly weight.. and a lighter boom is only going to take away down force. Crazy logic ?

Can be. What about when you prang going really fast....... 60kg on the boom can still snap it as good as 100kg can if it is a bad enough stack.

windtechnoman they are not that heavy, they are stronger due to the Ergal alloy they use, which is unavailable to other manufacturers, and other design features making fixtures a little stronger.
If you can pick 100gm difference in your rig vs mine, feel free to turn pro - the PWA obviously needs you.

remember he asked best wave boom, wavesailors don't care too much for bling, colours or weight (within reason) they'd rather have tough.

Out of interest I googled on the Aeron alli and turned up this:

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50484&whichpage=1&replies=93&PageSize=30&mxPages=4

Plenty of discussion in there.

For the record, I have two second hand carbon booms which cost me $150 six years ago (NP circa 2001) and $200 five years ago (SurfSail Australia circa 2002) and both are still going strong.

Have smashed my ribs on them numerous times though (the above thread has a comment that its the alli that tends to break instead of your ribs, whereas its vice versa in the case of carbon)

The old HPL's all cracked in the web of plastic between the mast clamp and the head

that was the ones about 8-10yrs ago, just thought I'd mention it that the new one may be fine but don't get old secondhand HPL's (or Gaastra which used HPL heads)

Who the heck is this windtechno punk? is it windwarning?

Anyways, I quite like my technolimits boom.

The thing I like about ally booms is that they should fail gracefully. I'd rather sail home with a bent ally boom than have to swim home with a snapped carbon boom.

Compared my silver series North wave boom with a HPL carbon that one of our regular looping spocking wave rippers uses & has had for a few seasons as well and the weight difference was huge - certainly be looking at one next boom - he's not a light weight - he's very experienced very good wave sailor that cracks all the big air regulation moves and reckons its the ducks nuts.

I couldn't believe the difference and anyone that says you couldn't notice is kidding themselves.

Aeron ali can take a beating and doesn't give up , north silver line booms are nice, light and slightly thiner boom diameter, but grip comes unstuck after only a few uses....

Yes carbon vs ally

I referred to somebody who thought his North ally was so much lighter than a Tecnolimits ally that it would make a difference

If you are buying alloy I would say Technolimits then Hydrodynamix Survivor Wave.
If you are buying carbon don't get a 3 piece monocoque.
Monocoque in chinese must mean something totally different

Unfortunately you can't tell if it's a 3 piece unless you strip the grip off or remove the adjustment clips.
Note: The joins in the arms are right where the harness lines sit
