My condolences.
Good time to ask: Should I always wear an impact vest and/or helmet in the surf?
I'm only just starting to venture out in 2-4ft onshore slop. No loops or anything.
A very, very small number of people die while windsurfing every year, and it can be down to faulty gear, unexpectedly tough conditions, or just rotten luck...every time you sail, you have to accept that there's a risk. You can improve your odds hugely with safety gear, but the right sort of freak mishap will still do you in regardless.
Very sorry for that guy and his family...
