No experience of Goya gear specifically, but as we all know I am not a big fan of the larger two or three companies.
Goya is part of FWD Hawaii, based at the Cannery, with Quatro and MFC. As a small company of (fairly) recent history with people liek Cisco and Josh Stone involved, plus their sails and masts being used in testing Quatro boards on Maui etc........... I think they must be amongst the best. Put it this way, if I won lotto tomorrow and was going to buy all new sh~!t I would buy Goya sails and RDM's straight up, simply because of how they look up close (attn to detail and good materials), who makes them, who tests them, and where.
Sorry can't comment on how their masts might work with other brands. Can tell you that my Ezzy RDM's have lasted 3 years of heavy use... where I used to break about 3 SDM's per year (of varying brands).
yeah i figure they would be good. i have a goya sail and that has taken a beating and i am still using it. so it would make sense they make there masts to match..
Goya gear is da shiz! I would have no hesitation recommending Goya gear. Fran is a designer, artist, his passion for all things windsurfing is reflected in his products
MFC - High quality
Quatro - Probably the best, Keith and Lalo designs are very comprehensively test ridden! Having Hookipa in your backyard does help though,
All Quatro production boards are made in Malaysia, like the top three manufacturers....
I believe that at Cobra they use a router to fit the mast track and fin box........ when it is a tiny bit tight they cut out the excess by hand...... known as 'hand relief' to those in the know......
Not sure about Goya masts but I'd vouch for the Ezzy RDMs, bomb proof. They used to be made by Powerex and my still be, my 07 looks the same as my 04. The big difference with them is they are made from pre-preg carbon, perfect resin/cloth ratios and their ferrule design is simple but rugged (same as powerex). Having had a lot of masts and laughed hilariously at the quality of Prydes so called premium masts (At the time, X7) you just can't compare with a powerex/Ezzy.
If you buy an RDM the biggest thing to look for is the use of pre-preg cloth in my opinion. Idiots in a backyard (Pryde haha) can't make stuff like that (they didn't used to anyway) and masts made using that cloth/process are of significantly higher quality. Pre-preg massively reduces the likely hood of stress raisers in the form of air bubbles/incorrect resin cloth ratios etc.
You also have to consider the price/performance. Not sure on the Goyas but the Ezzy's are pretty competitive. The Prydes are priced as if they are gold plated. The other good thing about the Ezzy's is you can buy half a mast if you bust it (If you only bust half), saves the full deep pocket hit. Not sure if other brands also do this.
And no I don't work for Ezzy, just a convert/big fan of His product :D
