Me and Geoff did the trip last season, 2kms out and the world became totally different - water crystal clear, watch if it's low tide tho, many places pretty shallow b4 u touch the beach! It was great fun but do go as a group with communication aids and spare rope and stuff - just in case ;)
all day constant southeasters are hard to predict for such a venture! if you jag one then the bay is your oyster, but if it's a bit squally or changeable then you'd better be on a board over 10 feet with a daggerboard. unless you do the old chestnut "wello to sandhills to margate"
