I've been to maui Ne and stayed at full moon resort twice. It s a nice place to stay, great pool, not bad food in the restaurant. The whole of Mui Ne is one beach strip with resort/motels on the beach side and cheaper motels/food across the road. Plenty of accommodation options but only stayed at Full Moon. Gear at Jibes (windsurfer hire associated with Full moon) was all current model Starboard / Severne when I was there last and could try all the gear.

We would often just cruise up and down the beach and try all the different restaurants and also hired a moped and cruised up and down the strip..

Getting to Mui Ne from Ho Chi Min City (Saigon) is easy. Every man and his dog will sell you a ticket on an "open tour" bus and costs next to nothing..

We stayed at the Sailing Club and I walked down the beach 200 meters to the Chimes Windsurf hire place.Great food friendly people Good wind but way too many kite schools and charter flight loads of Big Russians all exposing way too much flesh. Most of the big resorts organise transport from Ho chi min city. There is apparrently a new Island resort catering to windsurfers a bit further north than Mui ne where the wind is a bit more consistant but Im not sure of the name.Give me a call if you need any more info.

Sailing club is great, but as stated you'll have to walk up the beach to hire some windsurfing gear. Apparently if you hire it for a couple of days they will let you keep it at the Sailing Club so they may let you keep it at another resort. Also seriously consider taking the train from Ho Chi Minh, way more relaxing, takes about the same time as the bus, good scenery and the beers on the train cost about $1 and they have some of the best peanuts I've ever tasted. 4.5 hrs of $1 cans and I was forking smashed.

The sailing conditions are not epic but it's still a great place to hang out for a few days. If you think some of the food you're getting is a bit average go to the Sailing Club for a feed, top quality and well priced.

I stayed at Bamboo Village in Mui ne with the missus for 2 weeks on our honeymoon.
We did the Ho Chi Minh thing for a few days then got a driver to pick us up and drive us to the resort for around $80 USD for a few hours drive. Well worth the $ if your short on time.

Good resort and family friendly. Plenty of restaurants nearby with cheap good food. Not much in the way for variety when buying clothes etc.. make sure you bring your own boardies, rashies etc because the stuff they sold there was rubbish (except for starboard gear at full moon).
There were 2 hire places - full moon (starboard) and Wind Chimes (Naish). Both had good gear and the guys there were cool. When I was there the wind was from the SE up to 20kts- There was a not much beach out the front of Full Moon with some crazy backwash off the sea walls. At the time with that wind direction it was definitely not for beginners, it was not your flat water lagoon style sailing spot.

Mui Ne beach was clean (guys pick up rubbish daily off the beach) but most other beaches had rubbish on them. That was my only gripe about Vietnam, It was a bit depressing.

Been there several times, including a slightly self-indulgent 3-month stint in the 07-08 season. If you want to rent gear, I'd seriously recommend Jibe's (the watersports centre run by Fulll Moon mgmt). One thing to keep in mind is, that beach is kiter heaven, and unless you want to tangle (pun intended) with 100+ kiters, including lots of newbies, you'd best stay upwind -- and Jibe's is located upwind of all the kite schools. Wind chimes, however, is right smack in the middle of them!

You can stay at a really nice, cool little resort for as little as 20 USD a night, however these are usually fully booked by the longer-term stayers and you'd be lucky to get a room as a walk-in. Full Moon is reasonably priced (it's a super bargain by Aussie standards,, but I'm a bit more stingy having lived mostly in Asia for 10 years). I splurged on a week at Full Moon for my honeymoon (windsurfing honeymoon - how romantic, except my wife doesn't windsurf!!) and can totally recommend it. Do try to book ahead - Mui Ne is really popular and a has a lot of repeat visitors, pushing the prices up and putting a lot of demand on the lower to mid-range accommodation.
One more thing - if u like a smoke, pick up your gear in Saigon (people on the street will offer it to you, at the inflated tourist prices starting from 100,000vnd per baggie) -- forget trying to score in Mui Ne.
