I mainly sail Pinaroo. yep it's bumpy but still that doesn't stop others blasting past me on my slug Starboard trance. Sure it turns on a dime but i love going fast as well. Who can suggest a board ideal for these conditions which gives me the chance to once again feel the breeze in my hair (or whats left of it!)

If you want to stay with the Starboard brand, then for ease of use, comfort riding and speed, then the Carve, for pure speed then either the s-type or iSonic (particularly if interested in GPS timing yourself, then that's what the iSonic was designed for), other brands have plenty to offer as well.

s-type is fast, i'd get that if you were in bumpy conditions. If I was racing (a bit of upwind required) or in dead flat spot I would get the isonic. Also since the sonic has just been superseeded there should be some good deals coming on them (or a few second hand ones hitting the market).

Sails and fins are just as important as board, so factor in some good ones of those too.

I dunno about you're case roach but fast sailors are generally pretty quick no matter the type of gear they ride (within reason). Spend some time watching and analysing the really fast sailors, you'll be sure to go faster by learning from them (and it costs nothing ).

Thanks for these wise words however I'm certainly not loyal to any one brand. I have tried a mates new acid which left mine for dead in the speed department but it has some severe stress fractures across underneath the nose from hitting this chop at speed. I notice guys like murray pickering riding 10 year old slalom boards that are still real swift so maybe i should consider an old $300 blaster!

Be careful of the $300 blaster you buy, some old boards are most certainly very quick but they can also be very technical. New boards are good- they are so easy, nice to gybe, easier to tack, are generally less affected by lulls/gusts, plane early and go upwind better.

when i use my jp superx at Pinaroo i find the chop hard work and my knees take a battering.... took my kinetic delta85 out the other day and it went thru the chop like a dream... i think it's the rocker that makes a big difference, especially at pinaroo where the chop gets real close together....

Although vando is biased the new warp slalom really does look great and has good heritage. IMO stick with starboard or exocet and you cant go wrong.

So mk when did you sail the sonic or the isonic to base to valued opinion on them err you haven't have you.
But you have had plenty of experience seeing the exocets rear end because you always behind me.

you obviously have a prob with me writing my opinions on things, at least I back them up with experience and not here say.
At the end of the day im not going to ride a board that's slower than you am I.

Sorry roach it seems mk thinks I shouldn't write my opinion on things.
The best way to find a board you like is to try one.
That's my job and I enjoy promoting something I love to ride.

Keep sellin that company line mike, keep goin and you might have to pay site sponsor fees .

I am agreeing with you that exocet do make good products, you know I look far more than outright top speed (i ride a hypersonic afterall) or results when choosing a board. IMO both starboard and exocet are fast boards SUITED TO THEIR PURPOSE (just in case you wanted to attack me about sonic top speed- to which you have ridden only one model). Again you attack me on liking the sonic (maybe I dont know a good design when I see it) yet you go faster than most on a freeslalom board because it is suited to the chop just like the sonic is suited to it's purpose.

Both exo and starboard have excellent construction which I cant say for many of the other brands on the market, but maybe i'm not qualified to comment on that since i havent cut any exocets or starboards open (we need a sarcasm smilie).

Funny you havent ridden the warp slalom either, yet you have an opinion about it

err sorry roach, vando is a bit testy since he hasnt sailed for a few days [}:)]

often the only difference between changing the speed of one kit and the other is mast base placement to suit your sail size, a tweak of downhaul, tensioning your battens to tight, raising the boom, widening your stance and so many other variables. easy eh
