Hello, SBC,
My niece recently found that her 'phone had Internet access, so she promptly ran up a $300 bill for one month. Be VERY careful when you surf the Net on a 'phone!
Any page that has lots of colours is generally going to cost you a lot in download fees, so it's better if you download text only.
Following JayBee's advice, the top diagram on the page is for WAP (text only) and it gives a site, a time, a minimum and maximum wind speed in knots and the wind direction. Initially, you might have to spend a little time to find out the exact page that you need (but I'm sure you can type faster/better than me).
Because some 'phones do not have the tilda character (~), you might care to go here http://www.earthsci.unimelb.edu.au/~awatkins/wap.html for an explanation of how to get around it, if you need to. Note that this site is for VIC, not NSW.
Don't know what carrier you're on but, when using the 'phone, Telstra have a link on their site so that you can see how much it's costing you each time you visit a site (it takes about 24 hours to catch up). Also, by paying an extra $5/month on top of the 'phone fees, you can download a set amount, before the big charges start to apply. If you need more info on this, please contact me and I'll put up the links.
Personally, I use the Watkins and Seabreeze WAPs, with only occasional visits to "full" sites.
Hope this helps.
I think Ive decided to just keep ringing my partner ( free call) & get him to look it up on his computer..I just realised how much it might cost so ill steer clear although if I can ever set it up it might be good to have for 'emergencies..' when hes not near a computer..
