After 4 ? years I finally realised my mobile phone has internet capabilities..( I still haven't worked out how to put photos from the June L/W/E storm 2007 off it..I think I lost the cable..). Anyway I entered Seabreeze but the default graphs are for WA..It doesnt give me the option for NSW..Is that a problem that I have to ring my Telco and talk through or can someone here suggest anything..? The model is Telstra ZTE 3G..

You go into the menu on the mobile and it gives you an option to connect to internet explorer..?? anyway you can type in a website address and go there. So I got to seabreeze and wanted to set up the NSW midcoast graph so when I go back in I can check it ( I assume thats how it works..? ) but it only comes up with Wa options & I cant see how to bring up NSW..

Not sure how your phone works but could you bring up the NSW graph on your computer then copy that exact address to your phone? That way you don't have to navigate the menus on the internet on your phone.

Hello, SBC,

My niece recently found that her 'phone had Internet access, so she promptly ran up a $300 bill for one month. Be VERY careful when you surf the Net on a 'phone!

Any page that has lots of colours is generally going to cost you a lot in download fees, so it's better if you download text only.

Following JayBee's advice, the top diagram on the page is for WAP (text only) and it gives a site, a time, a minimum and maximum wind speed in knots and the wind direction. Initially, you might have to spend a little time to find out the exact page that you need (but I'm sure you can type faster/better than me).

Because some 'phones do not have the tilda character (~), you might care to go here http://www.earthsci.unimelb.edu.au/~awatkins/wap.html for an explanation of how to get around it, if you need to. Note that this site is for VIC, not NSW.

Don't know what carrier you're on but, when using the 'phone, Telstra have a link on their site so that you can see how much it's costing you each time you visit a site (it takes about 24 hours to catch up). Also, by paying an extra $5/month on top of the 'phone fees, you can download a set amount, before the big charges start to apply. If you need more info on this, please contact me and I'll put up the links.

Personally, I use the Watkins and Seabreeze WAPs, with only occasional visits to "full" sites.

Hope this helps.

You have to "touch" in the address bar before a keyboard will appear

I think Ive decided to just keep ringing my partner ( free call) & get him to look it up on his computer..I just realised how much it might cost so ill steer clear although if I can ever set it up it might be good to have for 'emergencies..' when hes not near a computer..

I've never even bothered exploring my phone before..you could spend all day playing around & rack up monster bills if you got into it ( & thats a pretty basic older phone). How do kids get on? Do their parents cough up the $?

Samsung Omnia Icon

Yes I know it is a Samsung but that is what was free so I'll take it thanks Mr Telstra

The bl00dy manual doesn't even show you how to find stuff like the alarm clock - with a whole bunch of icons, and a couple of different methods of acessing things it took me over an hour to figure out how to set an alarm. Stoopid

So, having tried to help SBC (as per above), I shut off the ‘puter, walked out to get the mail and Hey Presto, here’s this month’s bill for the mobile. Oh look, the Customer Service Dept. at Telstra have done what I asked and given me an itemised account of every call made on the ‘phone.

So, the Watkins/Seabreeze WAP pages download in about 8 kB each and cost $0.02 each time I access them. That seems fair.

On one particular date, I was prevented from entering Green Point and, using WAP, was able to estimate that Rye was a goer (went there and it was!).

Total WAP cost for the month was a whopping $1.52, for 37 visits to the sites.

SBC, take some advice: get WAP on your ‘phone!
