From my surfing days spraying someone with a good slash as you surfed past them was all just part of the fun.

I have done this to a few people when sailing and their reaction has ranged from mild amusement to abject horror.

While sailing the other day I was swimming my rig ready to water start when a kiter screamed past 'spraying' me in the face with a healthy cutback thingy

Is this kharma telling me to lay off with the spraying antics ?

Or should I just harden and dry [}:)][}:)]

I say spray and be sprayed - as long as no-one gets hurt its all fun. Mind you it scares the whoop whoop out of me when complete strangers do it. Not sure if they are bearing down on you intentionally or they are just completely out of control. Suppose that's Karma.

I'm usually the one copping the spray

and it usually goes like this ...

"WATCH OUT, you f&*%$(g idiot"

Copped a couple of eyefuls of spray myself, never dished one out though (haven't been at the right place at the right time... waiting for the day though!)

I reckon it's the same as using someone as a gybe marker -- if you're not on your board, you're fair game for whatever antics the upright guy can deliver

As for kites, just came across this picture, goddam that's a lot of spray!

If this the case then I should be called "The Gybe Marker Guy" I always though the guys just wanted to gimme a raz as they gybed around me, now I am actually a functioning fully portable, non position sensative, moving gybe point. Cool

There is a guy called Gadget, you all know him He loves and I mean he LOVES to scope me out when I am in the water and he fair dinkum absolutley smashes me with spray, all I get to see is his sh1ttly little grin looking back at me as he blastes off into the distance. This is ok by me coz it is very cool watching someone ripping along real close to you

Having said that, I did mention to him that my speeds are getting much faster, which he agrees to be true, coz I cant gybe yet I have warned him to be aware of the 92kg MintoxGT SBM (Surface to board missile) ejecting its self from said board at a fairly high rate of knots at the described mate I call Gadget, applying a head high tackle as he wears a skid lid so he wont get hurt, hold him underwater for a few seconds, spin his helmet back to front so he is sight incapasitated, then pinch his kit and make him sail the old school board back to shore

I feel that this too must be accepted as jest and become completely tollerated by one and all

Spray away baby spray away, yes these boards do move a lot of water and that water is moving pretty quick when it hits you!

I still get sprayed by "mates" if they get the chance when I drop a gybe
Just passing on the "love". Makes you want to nail your gybes. Bit of an incentive really

I don't know about thinner spray from kites, when I get sprayed by my tea bag mates, it's like hitting a brick wall, been known to stop me dead b*stards

I stopped using people as gybe markers after I duck gybed around someone and forgot how low the mast gets to the water. (When I do em anyway).
He didn't see it coming so I had to perform an emergency jump, crash flip.
All he noticed was me crashing into the water right next to him

Remember, Avoid collisions at all costs

Helmet is on order, water proof flashing lights red and green for starboard and port ordered, 2.2 mtr hi vis orange sand dune whip flag with led on top also on order, 12 volt water proof battery pack with a 3 hr battery ordered as well.

My brother and i were doing it one day. All in good humer ovcourse. Then as he was walking in at the end i thought i should be smart and get him really badly. Sprayed him prity bad then lost control, got absolutely smashed and landed back first on his mast. Bloody hurt. Suppose theres something to learn there.

Anyone ever get sprayed by Byron Marsh? That guy would give any kiter's spray a run for it's money... And his aim was pretty deadly too.

It was bloody sore for weeks. I think my winter wettie luckily stopped my leg from getting cut. Glad he didn't get me in the ribs or head though.
