This weeks Fremantle Herald has a front page story about the proposed development ( remember when the leighton beach village idea was proposed and would never happen!!) of Fremantle harbours.

It apparently includes " at the south beach end, a series of breakwaters and marinas off the current success harbour groyne that would extend half a kilometre across dog beach and push 1.5kms out to sea" writes the Herald.

Apparently the plan can be viewed at the library but it all sounds poor to me.

Not only could access to crazys be cut off from south ( that may not be a problem if you don't mind you car getting broken in to ) but where are the slalom and formula boys going to do their annual racing, Applecross?

After searching around the Fremantle Council Web Site, I have found the link to the DPI web site which shows some of the plans

www.dpi.wa.gov.au/fremantleharbour

Please read all the information and add your commennt (hopefully negative) regarding the changes to South Beach

My personal view is that Fremantle needs to develop the harbour but in a way that minimise impact on the beach and sea around the harbour. It is about time the government and developers were forced to be creative and not just allowed to screw up more of the ocean to the benefit of the mega rich. The current list of disaster is

Leighton Beach
Coogee/Cockburn sound
Oakagee Port Development
Smith's Beach

How much more of our coast line needs to be screwed up.

ITS TIME FOR THE SILENT MAJORITY TO BE HEARD. DON'T LET THE VOCAL MINORITY WIN

As far as I can see on the three proposals they had on the website there's no change at all to crazies, so from a sailing point of view I can't see anything wrong with them - they don't really reclaim any existing beach space (except bathers beach gets closed in by groins) but extend the groins that are already there?

DPI have known about a shortage of public boat pens for ages, yet they let those developers put houses on the beach and 400m out on the water on Coogee beach, without any public facilities. What a give away, ! Further extensions of breakwalls means less sand movement along the coast, that aint good, for wind nuts, surfers, or the beach.
