Interesting how Jason Polakow thinks only younger people are using digital cameras and utube to share their sailing with others. In fact plenty of older windsurfers are doing it too. In a way the more easy going sailing from these vids appeals to more people as many can see themselves sailing along at 20 to 25 knots on flat water with a nice gybe while not that many picture themselves hitting the lips of 20 foot waves.
a few years ago i was really surprised when i had a class of 30 students edit up a bunch of various assorted short windsurfing clips. These were random clips from the very best footage out there, and virtually none of them were interested in the wave or freestyle clips, but almost all chose to use the clips of robbie naish jumping from swell to swell on his slalom kit or the jp crew sailing together at high speed on freeride gear. it's like the average viewer just can't relate to the rest
i'm about to do it again with a group of 25 seventeen year olds, and i'm really curious to see what they like out of all the footage
