Does anyone know whether any kids are getting into the Techno 293s?

There's nothing on in NSW, but there was a post here about an attempt to get a squad going in Queensland. What about other states?

In the U.S. they're popular teaching boards with junior sailing (sailboat) associations.

We now have access to three 293s in Brisbane and once the wind starts to blow more consistently you'll see them practised on regularly by our youth squad. First event is the Youth Nationals in Perth in January and I know a number of 293s from other States are also preparing for the event. Once the squad is rolling, I anticipate a lot of the riders will make purchase for their own 293s.

In the Brisbane Boat Show last week we signed up another 10 kids to the State Squad's development program.

We aim to get a fleet of 6 293s for Yachting Queensland. $2000 buys us a complete set. Any sponsors? Email for sponsorship pack if interested.

Once we have a good number of 293s around, I plan to call for a Techno Cup. Techno Cups in the States and Europe are huge with 100+ participating each year.

Any juniors under 19 interested in joining the 293 program should contact your State Yachting Association (www.yachting.org.au/).

Any juniors in Queensland interested in trying the 293 email me direct or take a look at the 5 years development program I have set up for YQ at http://www.qldyachting.org.au/ under State Squad.

Yeah me, Pittsy and another bloke are doin it in SA at the moment. The others started windsurfing virtually from scratch and i had a bit more experiance when we started so the gaps still resonable, unfortunatley. Still light wind days learning turning etc. so i just go out and have a good time sailing with some guys my age for once lol. Not sure whats coming of it really though. Wether theres goin to be any competitions for us, goin to the nationals.... i really dont know where its going. I just keep rocking up when its on for some good fun. We have even had a couple good fully planning (straps and harness) days which have been awesome. The others struggle a bit when the wind blows up a bit like that though.

Just out for curiosity why are you researching it Chris??? And SurfConnect, do you know anything about whats happening nationally with the whole program??? Age groups, nationals etc.??? I asume that we might have been one of the other states preparing for it, im not really certain.

Cheers

Looks like there's something happening, which is good.

Bubs, I was just wondering what was up with the class. A few of the NSW kids I know (or taught) tried the 293s and did the nationals last year.

Good luck with it.

BTW I can't find anything like hundreds racing in the States, but the European fleets are huge.
