Has anyone had any experience with this?
According to the baggage rules, large items "including surfboards" can be checked in, if they are under 190 cm in length. This is for an inter-asia flight; I believe the long-haul Aussie-to-Asia rules allow for 277 cm items (bigger plane).
190 cm is slightly less than the length of a disassembled 430cm 2-piece mast, so I'm curious as to how flexible and understanding the Jetstar people tend to be in these matters...
I took 60kg of gear to Maui on Jetstar in April and had no issues..
For the Melb - Honolulu leg I rang ahead and pre-paid an extra $200AUD and had no issues at the airport.. From Maui I just rocked up and paid nothing and they sent it all they way through to Melb with no charge. There was 3 of us all with the same amount of gear and no one got charged!
The key is to NEVER refer to is as Windsurf gear... all you are carrying is some 'surfboards' and all the rest of the bags are 'cameras' and 'clothes'!

No matter what they say don't loose your **** with them! or they find a whole bunch of new charges for you!!
