Last year my car (containing all my sailing gear) was stolen on new years day whilst I was sailing at Middle Rock. Police called me today as they had recovered it. Forestry worker found it dumped in a cave in the bush. Been sitting there for 12 months in the shelter of a cave. At least the car theif was thoughtful enough to store it properly for me......still hate you though turdburger!

Anyway, a lesson from this. Despite me providing all my stolen gear info (pictures, serial numbers, colour photos) to the police, they did not list it on the internal report they made, and as such if it wasnt for the fact that my car's license plate was dumped with the gear, they would not have known who owned it, and was told it would have been destroyed in due course. Anyway, if you find yourself in the same position as me, insist that all gear is listed properly on their internal reports. MAybe if anyone on this site is a copper, maybe they could furnish us with the proper lingo we should insist on

So you found a car full of windsurfing gear in the bush and would like to sell it on here but had to come up with a cover story?

And just like Antiques Roadshow, these items have an interesting provenance, and if kept together, with original documentation, must surely be worth more than equivalent items

Nope. I had a small amount of home/contents cover ($800) which covered small mobile effects such as my wetsuits, phone, clothes, shoes, Wife's gymbag which had her watch in it etc but that was it.....I was so dirty that i didnt bother to specify the sporting items as separate cover (which I learnt afterwards was an option)

I now have specified mobile valuables cover via AAMI for my sailing gear just in case it ever happens again

I was up at Port Mq last week however the weather (wind) despite some good forecasts didn't kick in. I'm curious whether you have sailed Dunbogan? in a ENE/NE. Likewise Crowdy Head in a NE?

Re your sailing gear & the Police - well what can you say, it's just a report. Things like golf clubs/bicycles etc. in vehicles (stolen) always provide difficulties when it comes to claiming on insurance especially when the Police report says '10 speed racing bicycle' when it's a carbon Giant with Di2 dura-ace worth $7500!

Original receipts/dockets and photographs are highly recommended.

I saw Adam's car a couple of weeks or more after it was stolen just off the main track to Diamod Head, you could barely recognize what make or model it was, it was a totally burnt out shell and looked like it burnt itself out. It must have been intense as the alloy wheels were melted blobs.

Tomp, Dunbogan gets a good wave off the rock mound but is very protected from a NE. North Haven is a better bet in a NE, particularly the swell that approaches the bar opening to the river a few hundred metres out. I reckon it'll be a good backside or frontside ride in a NE. You can pull out of it before it recedes and becomes a point break off the northern breakwall. I still yet to ride it, hopefully this summer....after the water cleans up that is, it's very brown and sharky looking at the moment as is most of the beaches around here.
