No, not right of way rules again Starboard boards.

In what years was the Evil Twin waveboard made?

Their site only shows 2009, I thought it was 08 and 09..

I have procured a 2010 model, looks like the 2009 but with slightly different graphic and the Starboard site does not show a 2010......so I reckon I have something a bit unusual.

Anyone got a 2010 Evil Twin???

2009 boards were released in Australia in September 2008 for the 2008-2009 season. Same as now, some early 2014 starboards are out there, as with any brand. Sorry that does not answer your question but helps people understand when they look at 'years' of boards on manufacturers websites.
Perhaps Mark you have some sort of proto/pre production run maybe??, after all WA was/is the capital of starboard for many years there must be a few 'specials' over there.

I have a 2009 evil twin. I think they were only released in 2009 and then in 2010 they introduced the quad and dropped the twin.

You guys thinking like me.
It does not appear to be a proto as the finish is very production-like
But it is serial numbered like most Starboard proto's I have / have had, and also it is a 2010 serial number. Interesting.

Ben Severne was ripping in 2010 on an 80 or 82 Evil Twin - whatever it was that year.

be warned though - the rocker was medium slow - it was a super tweaked shape for surfing - and Ben was doing some great turns on it that year

I could actually match him for mobility in the waves that year as i was on a fast rockered Kode that year. Ben weighs 75kegs and seemed to be able to -mostly - sail around the speed / planing limitations of that board

moving forward to more refined rocker lines on the 2012 Quads and Nuevos ( i especially LOOOVE my Nuevo 80 which is virtually a production Nude twin - a shape developed by Ben and James Hooper which he has blitzed heaps of competitions (nats titles / numerous comps and lots of Cash won by Ben!! - and has taken his wavesailing through the roof - and seems to have defined his style over the last few seasons- this is my personal opinion only however)

So in summary -the boards get a lot faster (read get upwind fast, get twice as many waves - get nice height in jumps) and turn even better from 2011 onwards.

Personally - i think you are going to struggle on that evil twin as i have seen you sail a while back and i would say a fast wave freestyle board is probably more suited to helping you get more out of your time on the water.( In the Starboard range thats the Kode - good enough for Philip Koster!)

Or i would advise to only bust out the board when its howling windy and mobility becomes less of an issue...seems like days like that here in WA are becoming rarer and rarer though....

Hope that helps!

Thanks Matt I am still wondering as it does not appear on the website...? Google shows stuff all? This is serial numbered 10001 like most *board protos so may be Ben or Scotty's board? It is not for me, I scored it cheap in need of a tiny bit of ding repair :)

Waaay too small - you are right. Especially as it is an 80L
I am loving my Goya Ones as they are a FSW but still turn great. So much so that I wished I discovered them 4 years ago!!!! Very very few FSW's actually ride DTL well. Thinking about making the smaller Goya One a thruster or quad if I ever smash it and have an excuse to take a router to it :)

They at least used to do preproductions that still needed some fine tuning. I have a couple that are protos but Cobra made - but yes going back to 06 - 07. They all have 20001 or 10001 s/no's.

This is slightly different construction too ;-)

So anyway - they did do a 2010 Evil twin?

So being a FSW wave Mark, are they are still early planning and fast for fun jumping too? My break is cross-onshore and generally no stronger than 20kn in summer seabreezes. The FSWs I have ridden are a bit too straight/stiff for waveriding and are uncomfy in the surf, but I still like having some speed to burn around with though, so traditional waveboards are a bit sluggish. Sounds like I should have a look at the Goya One. I saw a picky of the 2014s on a UK site, and the One's in all sizes come in Thruster now! I notice on the Goya website you can buy second hand from the Goya demo fleet on Maui, and they have a large amount of last years models with thruster too.......

Sorry, I got nothing on ya starboard...........

AJ they are not as quick to plane as my 2006 - 2008 RRD FSW's were, so would be way behind virtually all FSW's in the planing stakes. But way earlier planing than a waveboard and glide thru the lulls and gybe exit is still great.

Mag reviews always show Goya One and Quatro FSW to be loosest and they really are just like a slightly faster rockered waveboard. Mine are both 2009 (got them new last year) and love them. Not familiar with the new ones but always did think as a thruster they'd be awesome.

You really should try One

Hey Mark,

The ET was only released for 1 year in 2009. We did place orders for the 2010 ET and Evo but just before full production they where cancelled for the new Quad. As it was a very late call some pre production / approval boards would have been made.

Normally the 10001 serial number refers to the first approval board that is made by Cobra, this board probably came in via Scotty.

Cheers

Well that's what you get for posting at 6:52 on a Friday, the beers have been drunk and shop closed for the weekend
You realise this is like a work question for me.

I was sitting down at Cott waiting for the so called 20kn NW to materialise (laurie??), so I did a bit of forum prowling. I still rigged up the 7.8 and went out for a float, It's hard when you have work to do and you are forced to go sailing

Cheers,
Marco
