I am working on a Severne Enigma boom that needs a new grip
I am taking the grip off using the method of embembing the boom arms in thinners so i can remove the grip better, it is a long and painfull as the grip doesn't come off so easily, i have to scrap it off with a cutter.

After all the grip is removed do you recommend applying anything to the boom, like epoxy, resin or carbon layers to make it last 10 more years or i dont have to worry and just put the new grip on?

By the way, i am going to put the new LISA shrinkable boom grip

If the lines wore thru thr old grip and made sny perceptible groove in the boom arm, def wrap with some glass in that area
Else i would leave it as anything you add, will add very little strength to a product made with pressure prepreg and heat etc.

I've repaired a few carbon booms which looked identical after repair. I think it made them stiffer.
Oddly no-one will buy them after a repair. Good to know new booms have joins too.

Not sure if you did the same, but I put the boom in a bag and let it soak in thinners for a few hours before trying to remove the grip. (Remembered seeing that somewhere). It doesn't have to be submerged, just enough to wet the grip and not evaporate. The grip then came off easily. A vacuum food storage bag, or similar long skinny bag works well. See video below.
The Lisa grip looks great, and a lot easier to install.

I also Saw that video and did the same way. But the grip was very well glued so it was no so easy, it required some work to scrap it off

Yes you use a knife just to cut through the grip but just touch the carbon then thinner in a plastic bag, the cuts in the grip allow the thinner and fumes the soften and melt the glue, super easy and work on any grip, also deck pads if you are in a hurry.

Probably cheaper to buy the fishing rod heat shrink off alixpress than the Lisa heat shrink.
Just checked and can currently buy it for about 50 cents a meter...
Can of spray mount glue, couple of bucks and good to go.
