G'day!
I have bought a new waist harness after about 6 seasons on the old seat harness.

After a coupla great flatwater sessions the waist harness is easier to use than I thought it would be. Thought I am finding it harder to keep the nose of the board down and the fin is blowing out sideways more often.

Is it boom height, harness lines forward or back or just something I am going to get used to with change of technique?

Thanks in advance!!

Got no idea KecksThere is a good article on set-up in one of the recent british windsurfing magazines I can lend you though

I just swapped over myself, and I'm finding the bloody thing creeping up all the time, anybody know how to stop that, other than lose another 10 kilos

Try moving the sail forward in the mast track and squaring your hips to the board. Stops lateral loading.

I find that my harness sometimes slips upwards, but only when i'm in a really bad sailing position - like hanging off the harness line. If you sail really nice and upright/straight you can actualy push the boom away from you and the harness will work itself downwards. So just don't sit, stay upright and push the boom away....

I would never go back to a seat harness - especially in boardies

i posted a long reply but it didn't show up! So I'll try again.

what i tried to say was that using a seat harness puts a lot more mast foot pressure onto the board. This mast foot pressure will keep the nose down. Also when sailing with a seat harness it is easier to sheet in.

when sailing with a waist harness you need to exagerate the level of forward lean to increase that mast foot pressure. Also by leaning forward you're evening out the pressure loads between front and rear so theoretically should help prevent the fin spin out. and finally because you can't sheet in as well you you use your back hand more than your front. if you pull with say your right hand you naturally push against the force with your right leg - any sudden lateral fin loadings will induce spin out.

the answer is to move the harness lines back a little to counter act that extra back hand pressure and lean forward. take your front hand off the boom and try to touch the nose of the board - that'll be a good position!

have a good christmas!

Hi there Seaton.
If you are spining out, and finding the board is bouncing around, it sounds like your harness lines are too long for your new waist harness. This will mean you can not ap[ly enough mast foot pressure and push to hard against the side of the board.
Maybe be also that your boom is too low.
Hope this helps

It all makes perfect sense! The boom is as high as it can go in the sails luff sleeve and my harness lines may be too long/too far forward.

All I need now is a seabreeze! (but i spose 'tis Xmas, and time to be spent with family. ...which means time for therapy soon after... )

Thanks for the input!!!!
