Has anyone ever sailed the break on the North side of Sandon point(Wollongong)? I've sailed Peggies a lot, the break on the north side of Bulli point (the next point south) and it's considered the place around there in se-sw winds. However I was up there the other day and I reckon the break off Sandon is a far superior wave, the only problem being if you ride it too long you end up in the wind shadow of the point. Still it's a good long ride, when the surf is > 4ft.

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried it in a southerly? The other problem is surfers as it's the spot around there when the surf is up a bit; there were probably 20 out there the other day. Could be interesting :P

I reckon it would be awesome. As good as anywhere. The wave looks perfect for sailing. If it wasn't the most popular surfing spot around, I would probably have given it a go by now. But I'd say the surfers reaction would probably be the usual (ie. whinge under their breath, and give the odd dirty look, and nothing more). But just to be on the safe side, better park and launch from Woonona so they don't know what your car looks like.
Today could be the day for south side of Sandon though. As long as there is good swell.
