Yes - I know, not windsurfing..... Flame away

The singlehanded transatlantic race started yesterday, all competitors are amateurs and have no significant sponsors, most have real jobs, the rest are students ;-)

Why do I post? My brother is competing so I am spending lots of time checking all the position updates for the fleet.

Blatent pimping I know, but the more traffic the sites get, the higher the possibility the event will attract a sponsor to pay for race trackers etc. They are not looking for cash, or even registration details. So if you have any interest in one of the last few bastions of the lunatic fringe take a look.

My brothers website is at www.dinah.sail.ie (He has a ghost writer that may do updates for him)
The event site is at www.ostar2009.co.uk/
Another relevant site is ww1.jamorph.com/blogstar/

Oh - and go Dinah

Good luck to them all - but "real" jobs I doubt it, I can't even get an afternoon off!

With the economy tanking in the UK - anyone who says "Can I take three months off with no pay" is hailed as a saint. No problem getting time off to go sailing, only problem is paying for it.

I just had an email from him. he has had to stop a couple of times. He had a diesel spill early, and last night be broke his vang, and the main halyard jumped the sheave.
He has been up the mast to retreive a halyard, and knocked down (and out of the boat) when Britney didnt react to a big wave in time. (Britney being his autopilot - Britney "Steers")
He was not a happy camper.

He has also taken to eating off the floor because things cannot fall any further.

Otherwise he is having a blinder.
