5.7 Lip is my largest current sail that is decent (x-ply) to take into lumpy stuff

Looking at either 6.2 Loft Lip wave sail (100% xply) or 6.6 Loft O2 freeride (high% xply) , both cammless.

Any tips on which size/style to get (i'm 72kgs and can waterstart but poor at gybing)? Basically if there is any almost decent wind I want to be able to sail out there!

Im a newby so wouldnt try to give advice on size for you but I have a 6.6 Loft 02 and use it it some very choppy conditions and it seems very strong. Lots of x-ply and feels pretty light in your hands. Can really get heaps of downhaul onto it so its got a fair bit of windrange. Good sail I reckon for the price. After sales service from Bud is excellent too.

Go the 6.6...

The gap from 5.7 to 6.2 isn't enough to make it worthwhile.

Jeff -Yeah cheers I forgot about that, so 6.6 looks the goods then, factoring in the slight less weight and I want an easy waterstart on it. The Creek has been good lately, but lumpy, getting air on way out (boardless unintentional forward aka catapults to be had)! Sth hit now so i'm off (harbour or maybe see if side-offshore creek?). Hope Mackay is goin well man.

Ello - good to hear quality and range of the 6.6, and gap, the weight diff might mean that'll work for me on my 105L

Moby - that'll be on a 105L Kombat (FSW), have 430 and 460 Loft RDM (So either sail will be rigged right)

I'm with wormy. I used to use a 7.5 Tushingham on a 103 ltr flow in sub 15knots. It was only when I went to a 93ltr flow it got to be a problem, but then I decided if I can't sail with a 5.7 then there's not enough wind. (I probably should have kept it and bought a bigger board, but oh well!)

true if your getting a 6.2 means you'll need a 460cm mast so might as well get the biggest sail that comfortably fits on that mast to make it worth while

The biggest sails I found that will rig on a 460 mast are around 8m in size. I bought a North Warp 7.8 that rigs on a 460cm mast. I think many manufacturers recommend 430cm masts for sails up to around 6.6m in size.

Would it be a bit unbalanced to have a sail around 8m in size on a 105L board. Perhaps thats a normal combo for the pros.

problem is waterstarting a big heavy sail on a not so floaty board in v light winds is energy sapping - you better be able to uphaul.

I run a 6.4 S2 / but the newer S1 / 6.2 blade / Poison 6.2 all go on a 430 skinny and with a 110 freestyle or freewave you can get going on gusts in around 13-15 knts - if its too light to get going or float out I'd go for surf or SUP and a 5.4 and have some fun in the waves on that instead.
