Quick question. Why do sail making companies often design sails with a luff of, lets say 429cms and then recommend a 400cm mast? All that does is result in you needing to use a long extension (I don't like doing this in waves with an RDM).

So, why can't they design the sail with a luff 1cm longer and take into account that it'll be rigged on a stiffer mast?

Or is it simply a way of selling more masts?!

I think your asking the question from the mindset of someone who already owns a 430. Obviously you can make a excellent wave sail that sets on 430 in the 5.x size range. However for a lighter rider or a DTL/freestyle use you can also make something that works as well or better on a 400.

So if you ask your original question from the point of view of someone who owns nothing bigger than a 400 for that kind of sailing, you might be see the wisdom of not requiring a 430.

I have a 430RDM that in hindsight I would never have got.
