Interested to know if it is possible to use a Neil Pryde Rs Racing on a skinny mast. Have a x combat 400/90% skinny. Usually use a X9 400.Looking to have a softer feel up range in the sail. Is it going to damage the cams or has anyone tried this.

Ive been using a skinny on my rs4/7,5/8 rss, & rs6.2 you wont have any problems with the cams, just adjust the batten at the mast and leech,the skinny will give you a lot softer feel and you will loose a bit of bottom end but the sail will be more forgiving in the gusts and rotate much easyer, i rig the 4/7 on a 400 with adjustment at the top the recommended mast is 370
when derigging you mite need to pop the cams off the mast first because the cams are sitting further onto the mast and you could break a batten
after saying all that " n/p don't recommend using skinny's "

Use a shorter mast than recommended, it's a softer mast

When using a skinny mast for a small race sail you may find that the longer, stiffer one may work better. One of the issues with skinny masts is they bend more under the same load (past the 30 kg IMCS test weight). This is why you have a softer feel but can also cause the sail to feel unstable if it is too soft.

Just realized you can't have typed the full sail size ?.5m

Surely not a 5.0???? I didn't think sails went that small, I haven't seen one of those in action in years

talking about a sail feeling soft on a skinny, the n/p 4/7rs is designed for a 370 sdm but feels soft, when rigged on a 400 its stiffer , the issue with the cam on the top batten it can wear a hole in the luff so you mite need to file it down
i am now using an evo111 in shallow water and wouldn't rig it on a skinny, if i need to sail open water ill use the old 6.2 on a skinny and you dont have the water starting issues or jibing that the prydeshave, the sail will rotate with ease, all my boards are low volume and not forgiving in jibing so im swimming Heep's, its a bitch trying to pop those race sails

It's a 5.0m sail Elmo and it has plenty of power, I questioned the label after the 5th time I got blown away , thinking it was printed wrong as it felt the same power as my 5.8m RSR. It's dimension are definitely for a 5.0m.
Most of my mates will be on a 6.2 and I can rig the 5.0m and plane earlier and go as fast and have as much power as them with all other things considered, board, fin size and body weight.
My problem is up range were I have been overpowered too much, going to full downhaul, outhaul and bottom hole on clew as well.
All my other sails are NP racing so I have a fair amount of experience with them.
Just thought this might be nice solution.
