Mat , how much room do you guys have to sail down there, was it on the edge of a sand bank or a tight spot where two boards can't cross ? was it a head on crash or some one from behind ?

Both riders ditched their gear before collision, so there was no personal injuries - given the size of the slice into the board, I am grateful that no one was hurt.
That said, the ditching of the gear was one of the reasons for the collision as it created a big object that couldn't be avoided.
This occurred at Sandy Point, on the east bank - basically the bank has a convex arc through about 45 degrees, so sailors pinch-up close to the bank at the apex of the arc.
Thinking about it, the problem was that the sailor on starboard (ie: the other guy) changed course a few times to avoid me - but since I was on port, thats what I was doing to avoid him.
