Hi Guys, just wondering top speeds of any IMCO sailors?I regularly get to 25kts using ol 7.2m aerotech in choppy conditions. Whats your max guys?

25kns on my F2 lightning with NP Evo5 7.8 in 20+ kns on rough water.
24.5kns on my Phantom 377 with Demon 8.5 in 20+ kns on smooth water.

Magic you may want to do a bit of googling before you hit the send key next time. Try IMCO, Race Board, Equipe2, F2 Lightning, Phantom 377 to start. You may then realise you look like a bit of a twat when you post knowing nothing about the subject matter. I'll spot you a six pack of beer if you can do 33 knots on the Starship in the Gorge and produce the GPS track to prove it.

Do Starships have gaskets for their centre boards?

In fairness, to the uninitiated, it is not ridiculous to assume that the boards used for most racing (Slalom, Defi Wind, LOC etc) could be referred to as "race boards", and these boards are indeed very much faster than 25 knots.

Probably "longboard" is a more apt description for a "traditional" race board.

So I reckon you are correct Magic Ride; no piss-taking required. The fastest speed achieved on a (slalom) race board, attached to the feet of someone Antoine Albeau or Pierre Mortefon would be well north of 40!

Last time I raced Raceboards, about 7 years ago, the guys who finished about 3rd and 7th in the nationals were reporting peaks of 29 and 30+ knots if I recall correctly.

I knew I'd get old Roosters attenntion! My GPS and weather reports all measure wind in MPH, so I always have to GOOGLE the conversion share to get my Knots correct. Now, in MPH, my best speed on my 115L Naish Starship was 38 MPH. 38 MPH converted into knots is 33.021. The average speed for a board like mine would be high 20s to lower 30 MPH range. So yes, I'm in spec here, so what's the issue? This speed of 38 MPH was achieved not on the Columbia Gorge, but at Klamath Lake. I tell ya, I'm gonna post some epic pics of my sessions here to show ya how perfect these conditions are here. Stay tooned!
My top top speed would most likely not be attainable at the Columbia Gorge, because of the large swell. On average here, the swell is 1-2 feet high with 12-14 knots of wind.

Hmmm, seems 22-25kts is reasonably easy to achieve in 18kts wind. Whats the secret in getting to 30kts? At 25kts boardspeed im back in the straps with not much board in the water. Not much flat water when the wind gets up where i sail. So its sheet in n hang on as the IMCO lifts n bucks in the gusts. Gotta find some flat water..... locally. My goal 30kts.

Come to Wellington point in a NEer. I'd love to see a Raceboard come down the bank in full flight

By best is 29.6 on a Phantom 377 with a severne overdrive 8.6 on a lake

I found a 2008 post in Seabreeze when someone was sailing a Mistral and hit 32 knots.

Didn't realize the subject was on older Mistral boards. It's all good. Lol!!

Nothing special on my 2000 IMCO, all stocko. Sail is 2000 aerotech 7.2m pro race series. Im 1970 105kg. 25kts fairly easy to achieve. But its hard to push it faster in choppy conditions.

What was your peak speed riding the sup backwards?

The IMCO is a fair bit quicker with a better fin than the stock version.

If you do that in a race you just need to make sure you "appear" from behind a boatshed or something before the start, and retreat there again afterwards

I imagine the IMCO's have far less rocker than my SUP, so most would assume they should be a lot faster. Though having lots of rocker and no straps did allow me to find the best spread eagle stance/trim to get it flying on the tail. Getting the nose up and clear of the deadly channel chop where I peaked at 34 helped. 5x10=31.9.

Any vids of IMCO/raceboards going around 30 showing their trim?

Impressive! Love the way most of it is out of the water..

I think some Raceboarders are reading their GPS through Rose coloured magnifying glasses!
