A few PWA slalom sailors who have changed sail/board brands recently (P.Voltwater,AA,Michah B) have all made comments re the sails "suiting" there particular brand of boards.
Now they are not going to say they dont suit, but what impact could sails have on board design ?

I have only a limited experience so far but had a range of sails, all used on the same boards. I had a tushingham x15 that really suited one board but no the other. My front foot kept coming out of the strap on the bigger board yet it didnt when using my simmer scr. On the smaller board it was great (mistral sl95rd) and I always felt comfy, yet the simmer scr's didnt feel very comfy. The difference in boards - one was long and thin the other short and fat, the mistral had a more pronounced rocker, sharpness of rails etc seemed similar. The mistral was more pic tail as opposed to wide back end.

I think without a doubt certain boards and sails are well suited, and others would need a fair bit of tweaking to get the best out of them. I have now gone onto Hot Sails Maui GPS race sails and Exocet RS slalom boards, they feel like they were made for each other but have only had a few sessions so difficult to comment why yet.....there is no wind here in western europe, its crap at teh moment, divorce papers will be on their way soon ;-)

Eric loots made some comments recently about footstrap placement and he did comment about the suitability of certain sails with boards.

As far as front foot coming out of the strap i have had this problem on nearly every board i have owned.

I would say biggest factor is the contour of the wall where the front strap is.If shaped flat like a wave-board you have nothing to push against with your heel.

The 2007 f2 sx is the worst board i've been on for this problem and the wall where the footstrap is situated is nearly flat. The Sonic i76,i had to sell this board as when in chop i felt like i was going to out of strap.

The new 2012 f2 90 litre slalom and new Sonic's,the walls are contoured more 90 degree-ish and i do not feel i am going to come out of strap so much.

My old 5.8m rs6,which i used to rig very full, would pull me up vertically resulting in my front foot feeling like it was about to come out.
