You seriously don't get it do you DR J?
What ? And you do? There is not actually very much to get.
Ok so the movie was only 25% financed, but lets face it you don't make movies like this because you need the cash, it's a marketing tool for the sailor, the sponsor and the film maker. It's made because of love of the sport. Windsurfing lends itself to film making, and a backstory like this one writes itself. If we could, we would all do it, as is evident by the proliferation of cheap broadcast quality cameras and the hundreds of home grown windsurfing movies ... Many of which have incredible production values, it amazing what you can do with a couple of go pros , and an iMac for a total outlay of a few grand!
I like the movie, its grand, it makes me want to buy a fanatic and resent the fact that I have to work 7.5 hours a day. It also makes me appreciate the insignificance of my first world problems. What the film shows me, aside from the fact that I am quite s**t at windsurfing, that given the opportunity, and the drive it is possible, even against the odds, to claw your way from poverty and misfortune. But , and here's the kicker... You have to have the opportunity in the first place.
Gollito was given that opportunity by someone at some point, and he's done well with it. All I am saying is give an opportunity to someone else. Windsurfing movies will be made whether you donate or not, let fanatic, neil pryde, whoever, pay for there own adverts.
By donating to world vision or similar you are giving another child that same opportunity to make a better life for themselves and there families...
Now if Andre Paskawski never makes another film, and never travels to exotic windsurfing locations again because I persuaded 2 people to donate to a charity ... Well my bad ... Yep blame me. However, that's never going to happen is it Andre?
And red thumbs don't stop me sleeping at night, so go ahead.
