Last century I did this, copied a convertible sail we had, (2 removable sails). It;s a while ago now, but I'm fairly sure I had to cut small pockets in the luff sleeve. And it was a special cam, it had some sort of velcro strap that went round the end of the batten, you could adjust the strap to tension the camber against the batten. From memory it did improve the low end a fair bit.
Thanks fella. I'm not sure if I will ever take the trouble to do it. There's some work involved. I, too, was considering copying a convertible sail (I believe you meant 2 removable cams.). What I have been realizing would be that luff sleeves of cambered sails are wider than those of non-cambered. There could be some trouble with that.
