I'm pretty keen to go there, but find it hard to get an objective opinion. So what's good about the place and whats not so good. Windsurfing and non-windsurfing.

The Good,
The best sailing I have ever had, nice people, good food, if not a tad expensive, awesome scenery, plenty to do if you have no wind (which is unlikely if you go in June), cheap clothing, stuff you cany get here. Lots of pro's to stalk (ask Levi Siver) everything is so accesable. Maina Aina - stay with the Goya's. If you hire gear, you can change whenever you want depending on conditions, so you can try out new ranges of boards etc, sails etc......
The Bad
Expensive to get there, long flights (especially from perth!) some heavy locals (but if you stay cool and keep to yourself and not get in anyones way, ie respect your surroundings! you will be fine). Mosquitos at twin falls :(, peak hour on Hana Highway,

Just go and stop worrying about all the cr%p thats been going on over there, people just like to whinge about somthing at the end of the day its still the same awesome place its always been.
Maui is the most awesome place,
Pros: Haleakala, Paia, All the national parks around Haleakala, Molokini, Snorkelling, Diving, Surfing, Babes, Bars, Water temp, Aussie dollar etc, etc, etc, etc, and i think you can get some good windsurfing too or so ive heard.
Cons, Alot of fat americans on leeward side, i cant drive there from home.

Pros; All of the above but most specifically; luxuriously warm (27c) water, 25 - 35 knots all afternoon 95% of the time, the abundance of incredibly skilled sailors of all types to watch and learn from.
Plus the place is absurdly beautiful, and the wives / girlfriends / kids all seem to love it too.
It's getting cheaper by the day due the exchange rate and there is no serious competition in the world for a winter destination.
The bad; you have to go through Honolulu airport to get there - what a dump!

Pros: water temp, diving + snorkelling + sailing + swimming + eating are all within a close proximity, instead of a 12 hour drive. very likely to get either a sail or surf in most days depending on time of year. Even if you don't, the diving or snorkelling are amazing. Some amazing walks and waterfalls to find when you are not in the water.
Cons: unlikely to score long classic peeling point breaks with just you and your mates out. Not much of an exploration mission if you are into that. You would probably of had better sessions in WA, just not with the consitency.
Some of the WA breaks you will know will be better than hookipa. The best thing about hookipa is that it is consistently pretty good.

Also forgot to mention, you will meet sailors from all over the world, have a drink, a BBQ and party with them, share stories, make friends all over the world, travel to other places in the world to continue your relationships with these people, and generally learn so much from watching other sailors

Comments from the others have been pretty well spot on, the only thing I would add is that if you are going just for the sailing then WA craps all over it but if you are going for the full Maui experience its got a whole lot to offer.
