I have just picked up a 2nd hand isonic with some areas where the paint has rubbed off
No underlying damage, I just want to tart it up a bit. What sort of paint can I use?

Nothin special (sorry could not resist)

Anything will do but single pack cans will not be very durable. Nor will you get anything like a colour match unless you are very lucky. The closest i had to Starboard white was Boost (brand) gloss white - but that was on 2005 - 5 EVOs and they could have changed

I've had OK results with doing the whole board with Kilrust applied with a foam roller just thick enough that the orangepeel effect runs out and self levels - but you'll add 200g+ to the board. Being a bit thicker than spray application, and an epoxy singlepack, it is about the most durable you'll get without going to an automotive type 2pack (which is what it was originally painted with). Takes a good week in warm weather to set well enough that it can be slid around into a boardbag etc

If you ring up a board repairer and ask them how to prepare the surface, then I'm sure they can do the colour match for not a lot of cash...

I had my iSonic repaired after a big crash and honestly I couldn't tell where the repair was. Those guys really know how to do it.

I repaired a ding in a near new board <sob> in Jan. The surface looks okay, but the colour is disastrous. In the absence of any sailboard repairers around here, I tried a kayak guy but with no luck.

Stoked to hear that a board repairer might still be able to fix the colour for me. Does anyone have any recommendations for the north coast of NSW?

Ive taken my board in to Paint Place in Mandurah-believe there are others around Perth. The guy there does a colour match to your board and then puts the paint into a aerosol can - think it cost about $23. Colour match was extremely good.

Just use a standard gloss white, in Acrylic, 2K would be better but you will need to have spray gear etc. gloss white will match most white boards, painted about 50 white boards and it matched most.

No need to waste money on getting a colour matched, and never ever use Enamel paint, it's Sh#t..

Sand with 400 wet n dry tape up anything anywhere near it you don't want white.. easy...

im with pc, white is white you could use 3 shades either side and you wouldn't know the difference, you mite need to give the rest of the board a clean because it doesnt take long before its looking a bit brown, best thing to use is a kitchen scourer and car wash, you will notice a little bit or paint being removed but it gives the best result
