After seeing the pics of the PWA slalom i asked Micah on my Facebook about the percentages of sailors wearing seat or waist harness his answer was.
"Micah Buzianis commented on your wall post:

"Hello Choco, I would guess that between 80-85% are with waist harness in the slalom."

Found that very interesting maybe it allows them to hook in and out quicker than with a seat harness.

Thats right, that is the only reason they wear a waist.

I disagree.

Most of the PWA Slalom races are held in hell windy places that are super-rough. In those conditions, and in Maui where a lot of them train, the advantage of the waist harness is that it gives a much greater range of movement in the lower half of the body and hence better ability to absorb bumps.

It's all about staying in control.

maybe 80 to 85% don't want to look like nappy type wearers!

pulling chix is hard wearing a botty harness on the beach.

unless you abseil cliffs or clean windows on skyscrapers.
