Sounds great - particularly as I'm heading up there (for the first time) this week. Any tips ? Is there hire gear available ?

Yes Port Douglas is gorgeous. Much nicer than Cairns as a tourist destination.
Green Island (off Cairns) is good for windsurfing (and snorkelling straight off the beach!) and has windsurfing hire equipment.
Toody from Green Island says:
We have lots of new gear just come in for hire from Starboard and Serverne
Free ride to race gear, rates start from $35.

Unfortunately it seems Great Adventures have pulled the beach pass back to 7 days but this is still great value,http://www.greatadventures.com.au/tours/green-island-beach-pass.html
There are some good deals to be had staying in the resort which can be a good option if you only have two days.

Feel free to PM me or give me a call on 0400634809 for further info.

Cheers Toody

Yep, Port Douglas is beautiful. I've been up a few times with my wife (by plane so no windsurfing gear ) for the snorkeling and fishing.

4 Mile beach is sensational and is a top spot for sailing. There is a bloke there who hires out sailboards but they're pretty old (unless he's upgraded them since October) and he doesn't like to hire them out when it gets on the fun side of windy.

If you want don't dive and want to head out to the reef, I highly recomend Calypso's snorkel only boat. No waiting for divers to clear, no ropes to limit your range, great service, great dive sites and plenty of time in the water.
