If you're worried about protecting the nose or rails, here's another option for you.
I wasn't initially happy with one of these; the extra bulk over the boom clamp made it awkward to grab the front of the boom when flipping the rig (tacking or gybing).
However, when I laid out the rig on the board, it was evident that the boom clamp could
never contact either end of the board; the mast section immediately below the clamp was the threat. I cut off the top bit, added an eyelet and now tie in place with a longer inhaul.
Caveat: I rig with a relatively high boom position. If you rig substantially lower, customising the NP protector as I did may not be good advice. Check first.
