That is sad. It always is when someone dies in the process of just having fun.
For some reason I did wonder when I heard the announcement if it might be him, even though hundreds of people hang glide in WA.
I well remember about 7 or 8 years ago when he posted here that he was thinking of taking up the hobby. I also remember that I carefully made the warning that hang gliding or anything in the aviation business had to be treated with the greatest caution and respect due to the fact that unlike windsurfing where your mistakes just end up with a severe rinse in the water, even the smallest of errors in flying can sometimes end up in the greatest of tragedies.
I have been around aviation for over 50 years now and have witnessed the loss of a number of friends and good people.
Being really good at it is no protection from the immediate and severe consequences of just one small error of judgement.
There is no 'pause' key, no 'escape' key, and no 'replay' key. Once the process is in motion it proceeds to completion due to unbreakable physical laws. It very unforgiving of error.
For all those still playing in it, be very very careful.
